Darbangha, May 15, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, following allegations of holding an event without obtaining prior permission from the authorities in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Thursday.
LoP Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Darbhanga, Bihar, which lasted approximately nine hours, included his participation in the NSUI’s ‘Shiksha Nyay Samvad’ program. This program was held at the Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, and authorities allege that it was conducted without the necessary authorization from the district administration.
Despite the district administration reportedly granting permission for the event to take place at the Town Hall, Rahul Gandhi proceeded with the program at the Ambedkar hostel, where he addressed Dalit students for around 15 minutes.
This action by Rahul Gandhi prompted an immediate response from the local authorities.
Subsequently, two separate FIRs were filed, naming Rahul Gandhi and several other Congress leaders.
The first FIR was registered at the Laheriyasarai police station. Duty Magistrate Khurshid Alam, who was present at the location, filed this complaint, citing a violation of prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It is important to note that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita replaces the earlier Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The second FIR was lodged by District Welfare Officer Alok Kumar. This FIR accuses LoP Rahul Gandhi and others of forcibly organizing an event at the Ambedkar Welfare Hostel without the required permission from the relevant authorities.
Law enforcement officials have named 20 Congress leaders, including LoP Rahul Gandhi, in the FIRs. Additionally, approximately 100 unidentified individuals have also been named.
Senior police officials, including Darbhanga Sadar SDPO Amit Kumar and Sadar SDM Vikas Kumar, have confirmed the registration of both FIRs.
Following the events in Darbhanga, Rahul Gandhi traveled to Patna, where he attended a screening of the film “Phule” at the City Centre Mall, before returning to Delhi.
