Chandigarh, August 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday arrested a Senior Assistant posted at the RIA Branch of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, SAS Nagar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.

The accused has been identified as Bhupinder Kaur.

According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of village Chit in Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district.

The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded ₹8 lakh as illegal gratification in return for facilitating the allotment of an auction plot at Sky Rock Welfare Society, Sector 111/112, Mohali.

Refusing to pay the full bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau Flying Squad-I, SAS Nagar, which verified the complaint and planned a trap.

During the operation, the Vigilance team allegedly caught Bhupinder Kaur red-handed while accepting ₹1 lakh from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, SAS Nagar.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether any other persons were involved in the alleged bribery case.
