With the efforts of Disha Women Welfare Trust, which fights for the rights of women, hundreds of women are now going to get a roof in Mohali. After a long battle fought by the trust for about two years, the Punjab government has started the construction of a working women hostel in Mohali.
Hardeep Kaur, President of Disha Women Welfare Trust, told in an information released here today that while working in the interest of women during the Corona period, many schemes were run, then it was found that apart from Punjab, women from states like Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand etc. are working in Mohali, the mini capital of Punjab. Disha Trust came in contact with about 200 such women. Who did not have a roof to live.
The facility of PG was expensive and unsafe for these women. Due to which, Disha Women Welfare Trust wrote a letter to the then Punjab government demanding to start a working women hostel for women in Punjab’s mini capital Mohali. Meanwhile, due to elections, no action could be taken in this direction.
After this, the trust put this proposal in front of Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur in the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Punjab, then she made meaningful efforts in this direction.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann approved this project and approved the construction of a working women hostel at a cost of Rs 12.57 crore on 0.9 acres of land in Sector-79 of Mohali.
Terming this decision as a big step of the Punjab government towards women empowerment, Hardeep Kaur said that soon a delegation of the organization will meet the Women and Child Development Minister of Punjab and express gratitude for the construction of the hostel here.
