Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and MP Bhagwant Mann on Thursday said the ‘Royal’ Amarinder Singh government, which had pedalled promise among the youth in the state of ‘ghar-ghar naukeri’, was hell bent on doing away with government jobs, day in and day. He stated that thousands of government jobs in various departments were being done away with under one or the other pretext, saying such a government had no moral right to stay in power any more.
In a statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said the government in the saddle had promised the unemployed youth before assuming power that it would provide jobs in every household, adding that, instead of delivering on the poll promise, it (The government) had been doing away with jobs permanent through its disastrous policies.
He said that in 2017, Amarinder Singh had promised to provide jobs to every unemployed youth in the state ahead of the elections, but had now backtracked on the same, dashing hopes of the youth.
The AAP MP lamented that the anti-employee Punjab Government in the saddle had now decided to abolish 40,483 sanctioned posts in Power Com Department, which was an anti-people step by the government.
Mann said that amid the Corona epidemic the Punjab government had decided to abolish more than 50,000 sanctioned posts, including those of Powercom employees, more than 2,200 (agriculture sector) and more than 8,000 water resources department.
Bhagwant Mann said the insensitive government was now toying with the idea of sacking 1284 security personnel employed under the PESCO, while hundreds of contractual workers were set to lose their jobs.
Mann said the Punjab government should revisit and mull reversing its anti-employee decision, failing which the Aam Aadmi Party would be constrained to mount a massive agitation against the deadly decisions of the Congress government.
Bhagwant Mann said that with the formation of AAP government in Punjab in 2022, all the anti-employment decisions would be reversed on a priority basis, thus recreating Punjab as per the aspirations of the youth of the state.
