Punjab floods – Sarkaria reviews plugging operations in Phillaur

Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria on Saturday visited village Meowal where the district administration has been carrying out massive plugging operations on 350-ft widened breach.

Mr. Sarkaria who had also visited on August 22 evening here, said that Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has been leaving no stone unturned to bail out the people in the hour of crisis.

He said that district administration had already successfully plugged the breach at Mao Sahib and this major breach at Meonwal will be plugged by today evening.

The officials from irrigation department informed the minister that the administration with the help of MGNREGA workers, the volunteers of Baba Talwinder Singh ji (Kahana Dhesian), Baba Kashmira Singh ji and Baba Nirmal Singh ji, has plugged around 250-ft till the morning and remaining breach will be covered by today’s evening.

The minister said that there is no shortage of funds for the carrying out the plugging work and remaining all breaches in Jalandhar will also be plugged soon.

The minister lauded the support of all volunteers for extending the help to the administration in the plugging work.

The minister had also visited villages Mau Sahib where administration had plugged the breach two days ago.

On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Mr Jasbir Singh, Chief Engineer Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Engineer Mr Davinder Singh and others were present.
