Keeping in view the festive season ahead, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Phagwara Dr Nayan Jassal has released pending arrears worth Rs 91.60 lakh to the employees.
The employees of the Finance crunched civic body have been waiting for these arrears since long. Though the earlier MC Commissioners have done nothing tangible then mere lip service but the new MC Commissioner has taken concrete steps to enhance the earnings of the Corporation. Besides plugging in the pilferages Dr Nayan, a 2012 PCS officer, has also focussed on checking corruption in the civic body.
Though she had faced stiff resistance for this noble cause from section of employees but known for her firmness and no-nuisance approach towards work Dr Nayan had set the things in order in the civic body. The result is that in a short stint of around three months she has ensured Payment of Arrears worth Rs 91.60 lakhs to all employees. This also includes payments of Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme which were pending since 2006.
The payments worth Rs 20.50 lakh have been cleared. Likewise Rs 71.10 lakh has been paid as arrear towards payment pending of Sixth Pay Commisison since July 2021. This has benefitted the hundreds of employees working in the Municipal Corporation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner said that she had been just doing her duty. The officer said that in consonance with the commitment of Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, her target is to make the city clean, green and pollution free. She said that employees are the backbone of the entire work so no stone will be left unturned for their well being.
Meanwhile, welcoming the Samaritan move by the Commissioner President of Municipal safai karmchari union Kulwant Rai and President of Nagar Nigam safai majdoor union Roshan Lal Sethi welcomed this path breaking initiative of the Commissioner. They said that by clearing the pending arrears the Commissioner has given a Diwali bonanza to the employees.
