PAU Soil Water Engineering HoD Dr JP Singh with prestigious Commendation Medal

Dr JP Singh, Professor and Head, Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred with the prestigious “ISAE Commendation Medal 2024” in recognition of his valuable contributions to the field of soil and water engineering.

Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV), Parbhani bestowed the award on Dr Singh during the 58th ISAE Annual Convention and International Symposium on “Engineering Innovation for Next-Gen Digital Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering Education for Aspiring Youth in Transforming Agriculture,” held at VNMKV, Parbhani, Maharashtra from November 12-14.

He also presented a keynote address on “Agricultural Drainage: Issues and Opportunity at Global and Regional Perspective” and a research paper on “Seasonal Trends in Groundwater of the Punjab State”. He has about 29 years of rich experience in teaching, research, and extension in the field of soil and water engineering.

Earlier, he has been honoured with the prestigious “Jawahar Lal Nehru Award” for the best Ph.D thesis by ICAR, New Delhi; “The Young Scientist Award” and “Kunwar Saxena Bahadur Award” by SRDA; “Fellowship Award” by the Hi-Tech Horticultural Society; “The Agricultural Engineering Division Medal” for the best research paper by the Institution of Engineers; and “Best Research Paper and Oral Presentation Awards” by the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) and Research Foundation; and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) for pursuing Ph.D from the CSIR, New Delhi.

He has guided three Ph.D and 13 M.Tech students as a Major Advisor and been instrumental in starting the New PG (M.Tech) programme in Remote Sensing and GIS in the year 2012. Dr Singh has also brought a prestigious FIST, DST-funded project of Rs 1.52 crore for the establishment of a state of the art Geospatial Lab as Principal Investigator and was handling several projects as PI and Co-PI.

Additionally, he has published about 75 research papers in national and international journals of repute and presented research papers in more than 30 national/International seminars/conferences/symposia.

Besides, he developed a filter for canal water potability and filtration technology for the artificial recharge of canal water and agricultural runoff.
