Dr Opinder Singh Sandhu, Soil Scientist, Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has brought laurels to the University by bagging “The Professor Rattan Lal Award for Regenerative Agriculture” under Youth Regenerative Changemaker (Individual) category.
The award was formally conferred during the event organised by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science (IISS), Bhopal and Solidaridad Asia on World Soil Day at Bhopal.
The event was graced by inspiring leaders including Dr Shatadru Chattopadhyay, Managing Director, Solidaridad Asia; Dr M Mohanty, Director, ICAR-IISS; Padma Shri Dr MH Mehta; and the legendary Prof (Dr) Rattan Lal himself, who joined virtually from Ohio State University, USA. The jury recognized Dr Sandhu’s outstanding scientific contributions in the field of regenerative agriculture.
This prestigious award, named after World Food Prize Laureate and Padma Shri Prof (Dr) Rattan Lal, celebrates his pioneering contributions to advancing regenerative agriculture. It is a unique distinction presented to young scientists, making remarkable contributions in this domain.
Dr Sandhu’s research focuses on conservation agriculture, resource conservation technologies and nutrient dynamics with in the soil-plant system. His earlier recognitions included the “Young Soil Scientist Award 2023” and the “Young Scientist Award” conferred by various scientific societies.
The PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal congratulated Dr Sandhu for bringing laurels to the university.
Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, also commended his achievements and encouraged him to continue contributing to the University’s excellence.
Similarly, Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, and Dr Rajeev Sikka, Head, Department of Soil Science, lauded his remarkable accomplishment and extended their heartfelt congratulations.
