The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has appointed Principal Entomologist Dr Kamaljeet Singh Suri as Joint Director (Students’ Welfare) for a period of four years.
The appointment has been approved during the meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU. Dr Suri has successfully handled 16 research projects (funded by national agencies like Department of Science and Technology and UGC, Union Agriculture Ministry; ICAR, NABARD, NRTT and SRTT and Punjab Government); and 40 pesticide industry sponsored projects.
In addition to contributing 72 recommendations in the PAU Package of Practices, he has published 72 full research papers; three each review papers, book chapters and flip folders; 114 popular articles in Punjabi and English; nine extension booklets; and six pamphlets.
Besides, he has compiled and edited four Brief Package of Practices (2 in English and 2 in Hindi) and revised a book, ‘Field problems of important crops’ for four successive editions. He has also attained international exposure during advanced training at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA for six months.
Apart from this, Dr Suri holds immense administrative experience. He has served as Chief Warden (Boys) of Students’ Hostel of the PAU; Warden of PG Hostel; Chairman, Academic Committee (Extension), Department of Entomology, PAU; Section Incharge (Insect Physiology, Molecular Biology and Ecology), Entomology; Secretary, Indian Society for the Advancement of Insect Science,
PAU; and Joint Secretary, Alumni Association, College of Agriculture, PAU for five years. An effective extension scientist, he has also delivered 47 TV, Radio and PAU Facebook live talks as well as 167 lectures on IPM in field crops and prepared five Video-capsules for creating awareness on judicious use of pesticides.
