ED seizes Punjab patwari’s property worth Rs 2.76 crore

Enforcement Directorate ED Logo 3

Chandigarh, Nov 29, 2025
Immovable property worth Rs 2.76 crore belonging to a patwari working in the Punjab government’s revenue department was attached by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, an official said on Saturday.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Jalandhar Zonal Office, provisionally attached immovable property worth Rs 2.76 crore related to Chamkaur Lal under the provisions of the Prevention of Money-laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, on Friday, the ED said in a statement.

The ED initiated an investigation based on an FIR registered by the Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, against the patwari under sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for amassing assets disproportionate to his income during April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2023.

The ED investigation revealed that Chamkaur Lal, while serving as a patwari in Dera Bassi and Kharar Tehsils of the Government of Punjab, had amassed assets disproportionate to the legitimate income of himself and his family members.

The investigation established that Proceeds of Crime were further invested in the purchase of immovable and movable properties.

The ED investigation further revealed that Chamkaur Lal routed illicit funds into accounts held by himself and his family members by disguising them as loans from relatives and acquaintances, thereby attempting to present these tainted funds as legitimate.

The investigation established that Chamkaur Lal had acquired disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 2.76 crore through Proceeds of Crime linked to the offences.

In a separate case, the federal probe agency provisionally attached 28 immovable assets valued at more than Rs 70 crore in the sensational liquor fake challan “scam”, which caused huge revenue loss to the Madhya Pradesh government.

The properties attached on Friday included prime land parcels and residential flats located in Indore, Mandsaur and Khargone belonging to several liquor contractors involved in the fraud.

The ED initiated a money-laundering investigation based on an FIR registered by the Raoji Bazar Police Station, Indore, against multiple country-made and foreign liquor contractors.

The accused devised a systematic modus operandi to cheat the state exchequer; contractors would prepare treasury challans for small amounts, and the column “Rupees in Words” was deliberately left blank. After depositing the lesser amount in the bank, they later tampered with the figure column and filled inflated amount in words on the bank’s copy, the ED said in a statement on Saturday.(Agency)

French honour for Chandigarh-based architect associated with Le Corbusier

Chandigarh architect Shivdatt Sharma

Chandigarh, Nov 29, 2025
Chandigarh-based architect Shivdatt Sharma, who was associated with Le Corbusier, who created large-scale cities like Chandigarh, was conferred the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) on Saturday by the Ambassador of France to India, Thierry Mathou.

The French honour came in recognition of his exceptional contribution to modern architecture, his lifelong engagement with Swiss-French architect Corbusier’s legacy, and his role in strengthening the cultural dialogue between France and India.

A self-taught architect of remarkable talent, Sharma began his career in Chandigarh at a defining moment in the city’s history.

Identified early on for his gifted hand and sensitivity to form, he joined the team of Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, taking part in one of the most ambitious urban projects of the twentieth century.

This formative period moulded his architectural vision, and its lessons influenced him during his tenure as Chief Architect of the Indian Space Research Organisation, where he demonstrated his skill in reconciling high-performance technological requirements with contextual and sustainable design.

Lauding the distinguished architect, Ambassador Mathou said: “In honouring Shivdatt Sharma, France pays tribute to a visionary practitioner whose career continues to shape public understanding of modern architecture and its cultural value.

“Anchored in honesty, rootedness, humanity, and dedicated to providing public good, his work reflects the values that defined the Chandigarh experiment. His lifework stands as an enduring bridge between our two countries, and as a living chapter of Le Corbusier’s tradition, on which France and the Union Territory of Chandigarh continue to collaborate closely.”

Accepting the honour, Sharma said: “I feel humbled and profoundly honoured to receive this most prestigious award from France, a nation whose cultural spirit and artistic generosity have inspired generations across the world.”

Sharma was part of the original Chandigarh Capital Project team.

He contributed to the completion of major works of Corbusier, including the Government Museum and Art Gallery, and the Museum of Evolution of Life.

Over the following decades, he developed a distinctive architectural language deeply rooted in Indian conditions. His tenure as Chief Architect of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is a testament to his mastery in designing complex research complexes adapted to the climate and built with locally sourced materials.(Agency)

Arrest of party leader’s daughter violation of high court’s order: Akali Dal

Kanchanpreet Kaur Arrest

Chandigarh, Nov 29, 2025
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday said the arrest of Kanchanpreet Kaur, the daughter of the party’s Tarn Taran candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, in the recently held Assembly bypoll, was a violation of the orders of the high court.

He thanked the court for interceding and putting on hold any police remand in the case till it is heard by the trial court.

The SAD’s legal cell head, Arshdeep Singh Kler, said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the DGP, and top police officers had challenged the high court order after it had given interim bail to Kanchanpreet in four cases by adding non-bailable offences in another case registered against her.

“It is clear that the AAP government has forced the police to arrest Kanchanpreet in an act of vengeance,” he said in a statement. Asserting that the AAP government was trying to create a false narrative against Kanchanpreet, the SAD legal cell head said, “The fact of the matter is that no criminal case was registered against her before the elections”.

Kler said police officers who had registered the false cases against her and had now arrested her without following due norms would be answerable for their patently illegal acts. The SAD leader stated he filed a petition in the high court on Saturday, and during the course of which directions had been given to the trial court not to give any remand in the case till Kanchanpreet’s advocates reached the court.

“Accordingly, the trial court will decide whether the non-bailable offence added in the bailable FIR was correct or not.”

Meanwhile, the Akali Dal said that by targeting a young woman leader with fabricated charges, the government had shown that it had no respect for the daughters of Punjab or for the rule of law.

Senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema appealed to all democratic, social and women organisations to rise above political differences and condemn this heinous misuse of power. “This evil must be nipped in the bud. Such unconstitutional actions cannot be allowed to continue on the sacred land of our great Gurus,” he added.(Agency)

A Simpler Way to Stay Fit – Talking Points – by Narvijay Yadav

Exercise-Fitness

Health is not a random event. It is a rhythm between the body, mind, and energy. This column explores psychosomatic science and the Bliss Fitness Philosophy for natural, balanced, everyday wellbeing.

During a hillside picnic years ago, my friend Dr Divay Mangla, a senior psychiatrist, shared an insight that changed how I understood fitness. He said, “Seventy per cent of illnesses are mental and can be controlled easily.

Only thirty per cent truly require medical intervention.” That one statement opened a door in my mind. I later learnt that this field is called psychosomatic science. It studies how thoughts, emotions, and stress patterns influence physical health.

Psychosomatic disorders are conditions where mental factors such as anxiety, fear, or emotional distress manifest as physical symptoms.

These symptoms can include headaches, high blood pressure, digestive issues, chronic fatigue, and unexplained pain. Modern medicine focuses on curing diseases. Psychosomatic awareness focuses on preventing them. It reminds us that before any illness appears in the body, it first passes through the mind.

Sadhguru of the Isha Foundation explains this from a spiritual and scientific lens. He says that the human body is not built for falling sick.

If we eat the right food, breathe consciously, and maintain a balance between body, mind, and energy, around seventy percent of diseases simply will not occur. The remaining ones can be treated with proper medical support. He also says that the belief that “diseases are normal for human beings” has been reinforced by market forces.

Talking-Points-Narvijay-Yadav

In my personal observation, health can be cultivated naturally by following what I call the Bliss Fitness Philosophy. It does not depend on strict gym routines or expensive diets. It begins with early mornings and gentle discipline.

When you wake up at five in the morning, take deep breaths, and sit for a few minutes in meditation, you welcome clarity into your system. Gratitude calms the nervous system. Light stretches activate circulation. Mindful eating keeps digestion smooth. Many experts now support the idea of eating only when hunger is real and avoiding heavy meals after sunset.

Movement is the next medicine. A dietician once told me, “Keep your body moving all day long, doing various things. You do not need to go to the gym.” Simple daily actions like climbing stairs, walking, cooking, watering plants, cleaning your room, or rearranging your workspace keep the body alive. These movements seem ordinary, yet they keep the body flexible and prevent stiffness.

This form of natural movement therapy is often ignored in a world that equates fitness with extreme workouts. But the human body evolved through natural movement. Our ancestors stayed fit by doing daily tasks. They walked long distances. They lifted, carried, bent, and stretched as part of life. Their bodies stayed strong through consistency rather than targeted training.

The Bliss Fitness Routine is a reminder to return to this original design. It encourages deep breathing, gentle meditation, gratitude, stretches, natural movement, and mindful eating. These are small practices, yet their impact is profound. They influence mental clarity, emotional stability, and physical strength.

Science supports this approach. Studies show that deep breathing reduces cortisol. Meditation lowers heart rate and improves immunity. Gratitude strengthens emotional well-being. Light movement improves blood flow. Mindful eating enhances gut health, which influences the mind through the gut–brain connection. These pieces form a cycle that supports long-term health.

True health is measured by how you feel. It is the ease in your breath, the silence in your mind, and the lightness in your body. It is the ability to sleep well, digest well, and move without pain. When the mind is peaceful, the body listens.

When the body is active, the mind becomes more relaxed. This two-way harmony is the foundation of the Bliss Fitness Philosophy. It is not a set of strict rules. It is a way of living that aligns with nature. If you breathe deeply, think lightly, move gently, and eat mindfully, the body takes care of the rest.
