Only one pension sufficient for MPs, MLAs – AAP MLAs oppose proposal of 30% cut on salaries of employees

Chandigarh, April 18, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab MLAs Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Meet Hayer and Jai Krishan Singh Rouri have rejected the plea of imposing a cut on the government employees’ salaries amid Corona crisis prevailing in the country, saying that, instead of imposing a quantum cut on the government employees salaries, double or more pension benefits to former MLAs and Members of Parliament be withdrawn for good.

He lamented that it was a paradox that a large number of widows, the elderly and the disabled were crying hoarse for meagre monthly pension of Rs 750 and TET, NET qualified, PhD, MBBS and engineering degree holders were not even getting enough salaries to make ends meet while millions and millions of rupees per month were pocketed by former legislators and Members of Parliament on account of pensions.

The AAP leaders said the Corona pandemic had crashed economy to the hilt globally and in such hard times, it was obligatory on the part of the governments to impose cut on the unnecessary and irrational expenses, saying the move should begin with the lawmakers to prove the age-old axiom “Charity begins at home”. The AAP MLAs expressed total disagreement with the statement of former Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, suggesting 30 per cent cut in the salaries of government employees during the lockdown.

Kultar Singh Sandhwan on the occasion said that thousands of employees across the state were forced to make do with a meagre monthly salary of Rs. 10,300, while former ministers, MPs and MLAs had been drawing more than one pensions and other allowances burning a big hole in the state exchequer, saying that by way deducting more than one pensions, the state government would get a substantial financial push, enabling it to provide relief to the poor and needy people.
