On the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Finance Department on Friday released funds to the tune of Rs. 70.72 Crores on account of outstanding payment under the Ashirwad Scheme.
Disclosing this here today, spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office stated that with this payment covering 33,677 beneficiaries pending dues under Ashirwad Scheme from January, 2019 to May, 2019 stand cleared. Of these total beneficiaries, 24,167 belong to SC category with 9510 from BC and Economically Weaker Sections of society.
Reiterating his government’s firm commitment to ensure overall welfare of the disadvantaged sections, Captain Amarinder Singh said that the assurance that paucity of funds will not be allowed to obstruct the implementation of such social security schemes. The Chief Minister also asked the department to make social security payments on priority as well as within the stipulated time.
Notably, the incumbent government after immediately coming to power fulfilled its poll promise by enhancing the amount of erstwhile Shagan Scheme of previous government from Rs. 15,000 to 21,000 given to the daughters belonging to SC, BC and EWS categories at the time of their marriage.
