Not Arshdeep or Mohammad Siraj: Paras Mhambrey backs Prasidh Krishna for Test Series against Australia

New Delhi, September 5, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

India is set to play a total of 10 Test matches by January, with the aim of securing their third consecutive spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2025. Among these matches, the most critical challenge will be the five-match Test series against Australia for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. This high-stakes series is scheduled to kick off on November 22, 2024.

Given the fast-bowling-friendly pitches in Australia, India’s pace attack will be vital to their success. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are likely to be the first-choice pacers in the lineup. However, the position for the third seamer remains uncertain, with Mohammed Siraj leading the contenders. Young talents like Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep are also in the mix. However, former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has suggested an alternative option.

In a recent interview with ‘Cricbuzz’, Mhambrey expressed his desire to see Prasidh Krishna as India’s third seamer. According to Mhambrey, Krishna’s ability to generate bounce and move the ball, especially after the ball becomes older, could be a game-changer on Australian pitches.

“Australia’s Kookaburra ball behaves differently, and it’s crucial to make the most of the first 30-35 overs when it’s still newish. That’s when bowlers have the best chance to pick wickets. The team needs a pacer who can exploit those conditions,” Mhambrey said.

He further added, “Bounce will be key in Australia, and that’s why I’m keen to see how Prasidh Krishna shapes up. He could be the third seamer offering something different from the others. After 30-35 overs, the pitch flattens out, and you need a bowler who can make something happen with bounce and movement.”

Unfortunately, Prasidh Krishna has had to deal with injury setbacks. He missed the first round of the ‘Duleep Trophy 2024’ due to a lower quadriceps surgery and is still in recovery.
