Fulfilling its promise of free healthcare, the Punjab Government has launched the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana’. As part of this initiative, registration of beneficiaries commenced today across Punjab under the guidance of Cabinet Ministers.
Leading the registration drive at Sunam Udham Singh Wala, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora stated that with the launch of this scheme, every family in Punjab will be entitled to free treatment up to ₹10 lakh.
Under the scheme, all medicines and tests for major and minor illnesses up to ₹10 lakh will be free. Upon hospital admission, everything becomes cashless—patients need only present their health card. Punjab has approximately 65 lakh families, said the Minister adding health cards will be issued to all 65 lakh families (covering nearly three crore citizens). For the first time, no income limit has been set for eligibility, setting a new national example. As of now, 850 government and private hospitals have been empanelled, with more to be added soon.
The scheme includes over 2,356 treatment packages (increased from the previous 1,600), covering specialties such as orthopaedics, general medicine, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, urology, oncology, and more.
Diagnostic services are included alongside hospital expenses. Any citizen can now receive free treatment at any government or private hospital in Punjab or Chandigarh. Hospitals will receive payment within 15 days of treatment, as the state government has already paid advance premiums to the insurance company.
In Pathankot, the Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak started the process of registration by going door to door in villages Daro Salaam, Bhoa and Gobindsar. He divulged that 14 hospitals in District Pathankot have been attached under the scheme. He further pointed out that camps would be held in villages to make the cards under the scheme. Besides, the cards would also be made at Common Service Centres. For persons above 18 years of age, Aadhar Card and Voter Card while those under 18 years would require Aadhar Card, Birth Certificate and Father or Mother’s Voter Card for registration purposes. The Minister personally gave Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna card to Pardeep Kumar, resident of Gobindsar village, at his house who was injured in an accident.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Hardeep Singh Mundian today inaugurated a camp set up to provide free treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to every family in the state under the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana’ at Mangarh village of Sahnewal.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Hardeep Singh Mundian said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fulfilled its promise of free healthcare in Punjab.
He said that in the last four years, the government has set up about 1,000 Mohalla clinics in villages and neighbourhoods. In the last 75 years, all the governments together have opened only 400 primary health centres, while the current government has set up 1,000 Mohalla clinics in just four years and another 500 are under construction. 2,500 ‘Pind Clinics’ will be opened in the next four to five months.
Explaining the scope of the initiative, he said that government employees, pensioners, and every other citizen would be eligible for the health card. He further stated that 850 government and private hospitals have already been empanelled under the scheme and more hospitals will be added in the coming days.
Initiating the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna at village Sabhra in Tarn Taran District, the Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that now even the poorest of the poor would be able to avail best treatment facilities from even the private hospitals.
Meanwhile, the registration for issuance of health cards under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana was begun at Sultanpur Lodhi by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and at Hoshiarpur by MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa.
