Giani Zail Singh School of Architecture & Planning (GZSSAP), Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS-PTU), Bathinda – students Simerpreet Kaur and Aniket Singla of 5th year have won the Archumen 2023- India’s largest Architecture Quiz Competition from Northern Interface.
In the interesting tough competition Simerpreet Kaur & Ankit Singla from GZSSAP, MRS-PTU, Bathinda won first position, while first runner-up were Het Parikh & Deepanjana Das from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. Similarly, Second Runner-Up was Shruti Pal & Shivangi Swarnkar from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior.
The competition was conducted by Team Ethos recently, which was held at School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Delhi. More than 60 colleges from all over the North zone participated in the event. The preliminary round was a written round of 20 objective-type questions, based on which six teams were chosen to compete on stage for the Regional Championship – Northern Interface. The competition was focussed on the interactive learning.
Former head of GZSSAP, Prof. Ripu Daman Singh encouraged students to participate in the quiz. These events aim at spurring the budding professional’s already keen eye into observing and imbibing, and the intention is to go beyond and direct the enthusiasm that it has generated even from remote nooks and corners of India positively towards fostering a national interactive platform that would have a more far-reaching impact.
The Head of Department, Prof. Bhupinder Pal Singh Dhot said that this would help build confident professionals who have been awake to the knowledge of history, architects, sustainability and many more.
University, Vice-chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu and Registrar, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar congratulated the students and faculty members for bringing accolades to the institute. While appreciating the achievements of GZSSAP, MRS-PTU, Bathinda, Prof. Sidhu stressed that classroom learning, often cannot keep pace with the practical world and the competitions like this creates a means of ongoing education.
It may be mentioned here that Archumen- India’s largest Architecture Quiz Competition is brought by Ethos- India and sponsored by Saint Gobain Glass and Transparence. Ethos commenced its journey in 2002 with Archumen – India’s Biggest Architecture Quiz for students of architecture. Moving on from a modest beginning at The Town Hall in Kolkata, Archumen travelled to Sri Lanka where an edition was held in Colombo.
Archumen has made reading a habit once again and the library a popular haunt of the students. Archumen is conducted as a four-zone quiz that culminates in a Grand National Finale. The research by Ethos ensures that students are exposed to relevant and valuable information from the construction world.
