March 18, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Dr. Vikramjit Sahney Member of Parliament from Punjab has urged the Central Government to allocate ₹5000 crore to Punjab under the Scheme of Special Assistance to States for
Capital Investment for the year 2025.

While thanking Union Finance Minister for releasing ₹1,582 crore as an interest-free 50-year loan to Punjab for the financial year 2024-25, Dr. Sahney stated that Punjab must receive a higher share in the upcoming financial year based on its contribution to central taxes and duties.

Dr. Sahney also said that Punjab should also actively pursue funds from other components of the scheme, which are linked to reforms in Urban Planning and Urban Finance, as well as sector-specific initiatives such as Make in India, One District One Product (ODOP), and the
establishment of digital infrastructure in libraries at the Panchayat and Ward levels.

Dr. Sahney urged the Punjab Government to submit well-prepared project proposals to maximize financial assistance from the Centre. “Punjab must ensure that it takes full advantage of all available schemes and secures necessary funds to accelerate development and economic growth,” Dr. Sahney added

Expressing gratitude to Punjab Finance Minister Shri Harpal Singh Cheema, Dr. Sahney acknowledged his persistent efforts in following up with the Central Government to secure funds for the state.

“I appreciate the unwavering commitment of Shri Harpal Singh Cheema in advocating for Punjab’s financial needs. The state requires continued support from the Centre, and I will keep pushing for the rightful allocation of ₹5000 crore in the next financial year, Dr. Sahney affirmed.
