In order to demonstrate the technical and economical viability of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) over coal, two model units shall be established in Mandi Gobindgarh, informed Mr. KS Pannu, Director Tandrust Punjab Mission.
He said that that M/s IRM Energy Pvt. Ltd. and M/s Think Gas Pvt. Ltd. has laid down gas pipe line for distribution of PNG in Mandi Gobindgarh and Khanna area, respectively. However, due to lack of technical assistance to the industries, the industries are reluctant to shift from coal to PNG.
In view of urgency to check pollution in the area, it has decided that two model units be set up in the area so that people may get first hand information on the working and feasibility of usage of PNG through demonstration in the units. This will end the initial inhibition and facilitate the switch over from coal to PNG, said he.
To ensure the meticulous time bound establishment of model units operated on PNG, a Committee has been constituted with the Director, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Punjab as the Chairman, Environmental Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board, Regional Office Fatehgarh Sahib as Member &Convener, the Deputy Director, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh, the Senior Environmental Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Zonal Office-II, Patiala, the Technical Representative of National Institute of Secondary Steel (NISST), Mandi Gobindgarh and the Project Head M/s IRM Energy Pvt. Ltd, Mandi Gobindgarh as Members, informed Pannu.
Pannu said that this committee shall explore the technology available throughout the country for successfully running of PNG and if required, take technical assistance from expert team of IIT Ropar for invention of any new technology. After obtaining the required technology, the committee shall complete the work for establishment of model units within 2 months, said he.
