A man who allegedly spread false news about the deaths of popular singers and film actors on social media has been apprehended after his activities came to light.
The accused was operating a Facebook page titled “Preet Dhillon Official”, which was reportedly used to circulate fake death announcements of several well-known celebrities. The individual was traced and confronted by Punjabi singer Geeta Zaildar, who himself was among the victims of the misleading posts.
According to information, the Facebook page had earlier published false reports claiming the demise of celebrities including Sanjay Dutt, Diljit Dosanjh, Satinder Sartaaj, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Babbu Mann, Ammy Virk, Miss Pooja, Geeta Zaildar, and Harjit Harman.
After apprehending the individual, Geeta Zaildar recorded a video in which the man reportedly confessed to running the page for the past three to four years. He admitted to spreading fake death news about more than ten prominent singers and actors to gain attention and engagement on social media.
The incident highlights a disturbing trend in which individuals resort to unethical and sensational tactics on digital platforms to increase views, likes, and monetisation. In this case, false reports about the deaths of widely admired public figures caused shock and distress among fans and followers.
