Making Kisan Sangharsh an issue of Kesri Nishan unfortunate: Bibi Jagir Kaur

Amritsar, January 30, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur has strongly condemned the controversy over the hoisting of Kesari Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort in Delhi on January 26, during the Kisan Sangharsh (farmers’ protest).

Talking to reporters at the SGPC office, Jagir Kaur said, “The Kisan Sangharsh is being deliberately given a communal color while the government is sitting in silence. It is not at all justified to question the Kesri Nishan of Sikhism.”

The SGPC president said that the people who went to the Red Fort were given the way by the police and if they hoisted the Kesari Nishan Sahib then there was no sin in it.

“These Kesri Nishans are flown from the Red Fort on the day of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and on the occasion of Delhi Fateh Diwas. Not only this, Nishan Sahib is also included in the Republic Day parade every year in the presentation of tableau related to Sikhism. This time too it was part of the tableau presentation in the parade associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.

This symbol of Sikhism is a symbol of peace, communion, human brotherhood, human compassion and service spirit. Why is a controversy being created out of this?” said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

She said that seeing the Kesri Nishan hoisted inside the gurdwaras, people come to seek help.

“Sadly, the issue of hoisting the Kesri Nisha on the Red Fort is being raised instead of the farmers’ protest. The truth is that while maintaining the respect of the national flag there, the youths have hoisted the Kesari Nishan Sahib and the Kisani flags”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

The SGPC president said that the Government of India and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi should address the issue of farmers and crack down on the forces which are deliberately giving communal color to the farmers’ struggle and instruct the police to stay within the limits.

“In the farmers’ agitation, in a gross violation of human rights, the police are using force and lathicharge to suppress the farmers”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

The SGPC president condemned the action taken by the police against farm leader Rakesh Tikait and struggling farmers at Ghazipur border as well as at the Singhu border.

“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi should understand the sentiments of the farmers and announce the repeal of the law”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

On this occasion SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Inderpal Singh from study circle, S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, S. Tejinder Singh Padda, S. Malkit Singh Baherwal and others were present.
