As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh,” launched by the Government of Punjab and the Punjab Police to make the state drug-free, SAS Nagar Police has achieved a significant breakthrough.
Divulging the details, SSP SAS Nagar, Harmandeep Singh Hans said that under the close supervision of SP Dera Bassi, Bikramjit Singh Brar, special police teams were constituted to intensify the drive against drug trafficking.
The teams, led by Inspector Sumit Mor (SHO Dera Bassi), Inspector Yogesh Kumar (SHO Lalru), and Inspector Sunil Kumar (SHO Handesra), carried out extensive checking and patrolling across Sub Division Dera Bassi.
During the operation, four suspicious individuals were intercepted, leading to the registration of three separate FIRs at Police Stations Dera Bassi, Lalru, and Handesra. These include FIR No. 128 dated 25-03-2026 under Section 22 of the NDPS Act at PS Dera Bassi, FIR No. 54 dated 25-03-2026 under Section 27 of the NDPS Act at PS Lalru, and FIR No. 22 dated 25-03-2026 under Section 27 of the NDPS Act at PS Handesra.
The accused have been identified as Jasvir Singh S/o Satpal Singh R/o Saraswati Vihar, Dera Bassi; Ajay Kumar @ Billa S/o Azad Kumar @ Jaddu R/o Village Mubarikpur, PS Dera Bassi; Inderpal Singh S/o Jasmer Singh R/o Village Sanghotha, PS Lalru, District Mohali; and Gaurav Rana R/o Village Rajapur, PS Handesra.
During the checking, 1110 tablets/capsules of Lomotil were recovered from the possession of Jasvir Singh and Ajay Kumar @ Billa.
In a failed attempt to escape, accused Jasvir Singh and Ajay Kumar @ Billa sustained injuries, resulting in fractures to their limbs.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that all accused have prior criminal records, with multiple FIRs registered against them at various police stations. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and supply chain of the recovered contraband.
SSP SAS Nagar further reiterated its firm commitment to making Punjab drug-free, affirming that strict and sustained action against drug traffickers will continue.
