Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon is set to explore a new genre with an upcoming untitled horror film produced by Maddock Films. The project will see the actress headline a large-scale production that is being developed as an out-and-out horror film, distinct from the production house’s popular horror-comedy universe.

Details about the film, including its title and other cast members, remain under wraps. According to a source close to the development, Kriti has finalised the project after receiving appreciation for her performances in Cocktail 2 and Tere Ishk Mein.

“After receiving praise for her performances in Cocktail 2 and Tere Ishk Mein, Kriti Sanon has finally locked her next project. She’s always been keen to explore different genres, and this time, she’s stepping into the world of pure horror with a large-scale film produced by Maddock which she will be headlining,” the source said.

The film will mark Kriti’s ninth collaboration with Maddock Films and her second solo lead with the production house after Mimi, for which she won a National Film Award.

The source said the upcoming project would venture into a different space for the production house, which is widely associated with its horror-comedy films. The makers are reportedly planning to mount the film on a grand scale, although further details have not yet been disclosed.

Kriti’s association with Maddock Films has produced several notable collaborations, and the new project will extend that partnership as she takes on a full-fledged horror role.

Meanwhile, her recent film Cocktail 2, directed by Homi Adajania and co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, reportedly crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide within six days of release. Its collections subsequently slowed as the theatrical run progressed, while Kriti’s performance emerged as one of the film’s highlights.

With the upcoming project, the actress is set to venture further into horror, a genre that will offer a different screen experience from her recent releases.
