Killings of cows in Hoshiarpur: Police cracks case in 36 hours; 7 including 2 women arrested

Sh. Dhruman H. Nimbale, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, while issuing a press note to the press, apprised that on the night between 11/12 March 2022, 17 cows and oxen were killed and there skeletons were thrown near the railway line of village Dhadiala PS Tanda.

The incident was very sensational and tragic. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the incident, Hon’ble DGP Punjab and Hon’ble Sh. Arunpal Singh IPS, IGP Jalandhar Range directed SSP Hoshiarpur to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. As the area of incident belonged to Railway Police Hence ,Case FIR No. 22 dated 12-03 2022 U/S 3, 5, 8 Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act. , 295-A IPC and increased offenses 120-B , 153-A, 212, 216 IPC was registered by GRP Jalandhar Police Station.

Taking the matter seriously, Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur constituted a team led by SP (Investigation) Sh. Mukhtiar Rai (PPS) and consisting DSP (Detective) Sh. Sarabjit Rai (PPS), DSP Tanda Sh. Raj Kumar (PPS), In-charge CIA Inspector Lakhbir Singh , SHO PS Tanda SI Harinder Singh GRP team SP Sh. Praveen Kanda, DSP Ashwani Attri and SHO GRP Inspector Balveer Singh was formed to trace the case .

Using technical and intelligence sources three persons namely Sawan, Satpal and Surjit Lal have been arrested. Jeevan Ali, Kamaljit Kaur, Salma and Anbar Hussain, who are involved in the crime and provided shelter to the main accused have also been arrested on the behalf of disclosure made by. accused arrested during the investigation.

Preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that the accused Surjit Singh alias Pappi had already been booked under 5 criminal cases under Sections 411, 201, 414, 379, 411 and Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act. registered under Police Stations of District Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur. Canters and weapons used for transporting cows have also been recovered in the case. Separate teams are being formed and raids are being carried out to nab other accused wanted in the case.

The interrogation of these accused will lead to clues about other accused too. Further the case is being investigated by Inspector Balveer Singh, SHO, GRP Police Station. The accused arrested in the case will be remanded and interrogated in more depth. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the above teams have worked day and night to trace the case in 36 hours.
