Filmmaker and television personality Karan Johar is set to return as host of the IIFA Awards 2027, saying that while hosting the prestigious event for the sixth time “sounds like a lot”, the excitement and unpredictability of a live IIFA night remain unchanged.
The 27th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend & Awards will be held at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on January 22 and 23, 2027.
Reflecting on his association with IIFA, Johar said some of his most memorable stage moments have come at the awards, adding that the event continues to offer a unique mix of excitement, nerves and spontaneity.
“IIFA and I go back a long way, and some of my most memorable moments on stage have happened here,” Johar said in a statement.
He said returning to Abu Dhabi would make the occasion even more special, describing IIFA as an event marked by “madness and magic” and saying he was looking forward to the laughter, surprises and everything the 2027 edition has in store.
The upcoming IIFA edition will feature two sets of hosts. Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal will host the IIFA Digital Awards 2027, while Johar and Varun Dhawan will anchor the main IIFA Awards 2027.
The awards will also feature performances by Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Janhvi Kapoor.
Salman Khan, who has been associated with IIFA since its early years, said he was looking forward to returning to the Abu Dhabi stage and celebrating Indian cinema with audiences.
He said IIFA was more than an awards show as it brought together Indian films, artistes and audiences, adding that he was eager to perform, have fun and be part of the 2027 celebrations.
