In a decisive blow to the district’s narcotics trade, Jalandhar Rural Police intercepted a significant drug consignment and arrested a notorious trafficker who had resumed illegal operations shortly after obtaining bail in a previous NDPS case. The operation, resulting in the recovery of 50 grams of high-grade heroin.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, while briefing the media, detailed that the operation was executed following precise intelligence inputs developed by the CIA Staff.
“Acting on specific information received by Inspector Pushap Bali, a specialized team under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP investigation Sarvanjit Singh strategically positioned themselves near Cinema Mor, Kartarpur,” SSP Khakh revealed.
The accused, identified as Ranjit Singh alias Neetu of Alampur Bakka village, was apprehended following a well-coordinated intervention by police team. “Despite his attempt to dispose of the contraband upon noticing police presence, the police team’s swift response ensured both the recovery of the heroin and the arrest of the accused,” stated SSP Khakh.
Significantly, the investigation has revealed that the accused was previously booked under the NDPS Act in March 2022 (FIR No. 48) at Police Station Kartarpur.
A fresh case under sections 21B-61-85 of the NDPS Act has been registered (FIR No. 01 dated 02-01-2025).
The police will seek extended custody to investigate the broader implications of this seizure, including the source of the contraband and the extent of the distribution network.
“We are initiating a comprehensive financial investigation, focusing on assets acquired through drug proceeds. Any property linked to narcotics trade will be dealt with according to the provisions of law,” SSP Khakh added.
SSP Khakh added that Jalandhar Rural Police maintains a tough m stance against drug trafficking, implementing a multi-pronged strategy combining intelligence-based operations with community engagement.
He commended the operation team for their professional execution while urging citizens to continue their crucial role in the fight against narcotics by sharing information about drug-related activities.
