In a major crackdown on theft and drug trafficking, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two accused involved in separate cases of motorcycle theft and drug smuggling. The recoveries include 03 stolen motorcycles, six mobile phones, 10 grams of heroin, and 105 narcotic pills, said Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, PPS, here on Sunday.
Those arrested have been identified as Ashok Sandhu, a resident of Rurka Khurd, and Charanjit Singh alias Channi, also from Rurka Khurd. Both have extensive criminal histories and were involved in multiple offenses across the district.
SSP Khakh added that in the first case, a police team from Guraya Police Station, led by Inspector Sikander Singh under the supervision of DSP Sarwan Singh Bal, apprehended Ashok Sandhu near the railway gate at Dallewal. He was found with two stolen motorcycles—Discover (PB-08-CG-2652) and Platina (unregistered)—and six mobile phones. The accused confessed to being part of a theft network targeting vehicles and personal belongings.
In the second case, the same police team arrested Charanjit Singh alias Channi, who was caught near Dhuleta village with 10 grams of heroin, 105 narcotic pills, and a Splendor motorcycle (PB-08-FE-1158).
Charanjit, a habitual offender, has seven criminal cases registered against him, including theft and NDPS Act violations. After being released on bail earlier, he resumed drug trafficking, causing unrest in the area.
“The timely action by the police has not only resolved two significant cases but also delivered a strong message to criminals in the region. Investigations are ongoing to uncover accomplices and dismantle these criminal networks,” said SSP Khakh.
The arrested accused have been booked under sections 304, 303(2), and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Jalandhar Rural Police remain committed to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
