The General Election Observer, A.P.S. Sandhu (IAS), appointed by the Punjab State Election Commission for the 2024 Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections, conducted a meeting with district officials to assess election preparations for polling on December 21.
Chairing the meeting at the District Administrative Complex with District Election Officer Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Mr. Sandhu reviewed staff training, polling booth sensitivity, security deployment, licensed arms collection, and complaint resolution. He emphasized strict adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines and instructed immediate action on complaints.
Mr. Sandhu directed police officers to prepare ward-wise lists of sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations for enhanced monitoring. He also called for the prompt collection of remaining licensed weapons.
Dr. Aggarwal assured robust arrangements, revealing there are 683,367 voters (354,159 male, 329,188 female, and 20 others) and 677 polling booths. He confirmed that the election process will be conducted smoothly and transparently.
Notably, as many as 380 candidates are contesting the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections.
Officials present included DCP Aditya, ADCs Jasbir Singh and Budhi Raj Singh, SDMs Balbir Raj Singh and Randeep Singh Heer, and other senior officials.
