Jalandhar DC lauds role of Surjit Hockey Society, hands over hockey kits to budding players

With an aim to promote sports among the youths and encourage them for excelling in their lives, Deputy Commissioner-cum-President of Surjit Hockey Society Ghanshyam Thori on Monday started the distribution of hockey kits to 100 budding players symbolically by handing over hockey kits to 16 youths in the district administrative complex.

Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh and other office-bearers of the society, he said that the district administration is committed to giving a major boost to the sports in the district.

He told that the district administration is providing these kits to emerging players to inculcate the habit of participating in sports among them. He added that sports help the youths to develop a team spirit which could help them to excel in their lives.

The Deputy Commissioner added that this same spirit could be used for bringing reforms in the society and asked them to channelize their energy towards the sports.

He said that the need of the hour was to popularize sports culture amongst the children as well as the youths.

He said that the sportspersons were blessed with several qualities and one of them was that they develop a team spirit during the game, which could help them to excel in their lives.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this same spirit should be replicated for constructing a progressive and harmonious society. He asked the budding players to lay due focus on the study along with the Sports for comprehensive development of their personality.

He also lauded the efforts of Surjit Hockey Society in the promoting the national game in the country for decades.

The hockey kits were given to the emerging players including Kundan, Mohit Kumar, Ankit, Roshanpreet Singh, Simarpreet Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Gurnoor Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Moris, Sahil Samuel, Neeraj, Harry Kumar, Jaspreet Kaur, Javed, Prabhdeep Singh and Sukhpreet Singh.

On the occasion, Secretary Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Senior vice-president Amrik Singh Powar, Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira, Surinder Singh Bhapa, Joint Secretary Ranbir Singh Rana Tut, Ram Partap Singh and others were present.
