Jaijeet Singh, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was Monday appointed Police Commissioner of Thane, one of the most-sought after posts in the state.
Till now, he was the Chief of Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS). Vineet Aggarwal, a Principal Secretary with the Home Department has been named the new ATS Chief. According to orders issued in this respect, IPS Sanjay Saxena will be the new Principal Secretary of the Home Department.
Led by Jaijeet Singh, ATS had made two arrests in connection with Mansukh Hiran murder case, after it was transferred to the ATS after serious allegations surfaced against dismissed cop Sachin Waze, who was till then investigating the case. The much yped Mansukh Hiran Murder case was ultimately transferred to the NIA.
The post of Thane Police Commissioner had fallen vacant after the incumbent Vivek Phansalkar was promoted and transferred as DG Police Housing.
Since then there had been speculation about the next Thane Police Commissioner, which now comes to an end with the appointment of Jaijeet Singh.
Vineet Agarwal, who comes as ATS chief, was earlier Principal Secretary (Home) and has in the past been Special Director with the Enforcement Directorate besides holding several key posts in the city including Additional Commissioner of Police (Central Region).
The new Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Saxena was on study leave and has recently joined as Addl DG (Special Operations). He had earlier served as Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Crime Branch.
