New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season, taking charge of the franchise in his first formal coaching role.

Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019, when he joined the organisation as an advisor. He subsequently served in senior positions, including Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The 54-year-old will now move into the dugout as Delhi Capitals look to build on their recent performances and mount a stronger challenge for their maiden IPL title.

Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment, describing Ganguly as an integral part of the franchise and highlighting his leadership experience.

“Dada is and has always been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals family,” Jindal said. He added that Ganguly’s experience and leadership would help prepare the team to challenge for the IPL title.

Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi said Ganguly’s familiarity with the franchise’s cricketing structure would be valuable in his new role.

“Dada has been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals journey over the years and has played an important role in strengthening our cricketing structure,” Grandhi said. “His deep understanding of the franchise, coupled with his experience and leadership, will be invaluable as we move forward.”

Ganguly said his long association with the franchise made the new responsibility particularly meaningful.

“Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart, and one that I have shared a strong relationship with over the years,” Ganguly said. “I have worked closely with the owners, management, support staff and players, which makes this an exciting responsibility for me.”

He added that the team had a talented group and said he was looking forward to building a “strong and fearless team” for the new season.

Ganguly’s appointment marks another chapter in a relationship with the Capitals that began seven years ago. During his time with the franchise, he worked across both the men’s and women’s teams and was involved in developing its cricketing structure.

Delhi Capitals reached their maiden IPL final in 2020 but are yet to win the tournament. The franchise also has a team in the Women’s Premier League, where Delhi Capitals have reached the final in all four editions and finished runners-up each time.
