To make Mohali roads decongested and traffic friendly in the wake of growing urbanisation and infrastructural developments at a fast pace, the Secretary, of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Rahul Tewari today held a brainstorming session with the Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, CA GMADA Moonish Kumar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation T Benith, SSP Deepak Pareek, Project Director NHAI and State Road Safety Advisor Navdeep Aseeja at Mohali District Administrative Complex.
Emphasising the need to plan out short and long-term solutions to overcome future challenges on congestion of traffic on roads, he said that the stakeholders must work in tandem with the Deputy Commissioner to flag the issues with the state and neighbouring UT Administration and Panchkula District Administration.
He said that the existing road infrastructure needs to be improved and expanded further taking care of the additional volume of traffic in coming years. As the Mohali district roads are the most used roads by commuters to make their way to Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala Baddi and other areas of Himachal Pradesh, so we will have to look into the situation from today.
He said that the proposals should be submitted to the state where the land acquisition is required besides roping in GMADA for short-term solutions to decongest the traffic. He said that the projects for enhanced and safe mobility can also be taken up with the Government of India through the state government.
He categorically said that the issues and challenges and their suggested way-outs put up here by the GMADA, Traffic Wing of District Police and Municipal Corporation should be regularly discussed every month with the Deputy Commissioner to keep a tab on progress and plans.
Commissioner MC, T Benith also briefed on the action taken on de-congestion on city roads and markets besides flagging issues yet to be taken up with suggestions. SSP Deepak Pareek apprised Secretary Rahul Tewari of the few steps taken in the recent days while SP (Traffic) H S Mann discussed them all in detail.
Pardeep Atri, Project Director, National Highways said that the NHAI is working on making Airport Junction from Zirakpur to Panchkula, a signal-free highway besides completing the road projects on war footing.
State Traffic Advisor on Road safety, Dr Navdeep Aseeja while stressing enhanced public modes of transportation said that a rail connectivity between Kurali and Baddi (about 20 Km) can also be explored to decongest the traffic on this route. He said that traffic runs on Mohali roads has a major intensity to the nearby cities for which we will have to work for smoother commutation.
Summing up the session, the Deputy Commissioner assured the Secretary, of Housing and Urban Development, Rahul Tewari to take up all the issues in the coming monthly meeting with the concerned departments to decongest the traffic on district roads. She expressed gratitude to the Secretary, Rahul Tewari for taking the initiative to have an elaborative discussion with all the stakeholders to resolve the traffic issue.
The open house discussion on decongestion of traffic chaos on Mohali roads takes up issues like PR-4 connecting with Chandigarh via Dakshin Marg, PR-5 connecting with Chandigarh via Vikas Marg, Sector 48/65 to 124/125 and 48/65 to Dara Studio and Dara Studio to Sector 124/125.
