The Union government has appointed Nishant Kumar Yadav, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chandigarh. Yadav, currently serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, will replace Vinay Pratap Singh, a 2011-batch IAS officer, who has been approved for central deputation.
Yadav’s Background and Administrative Experience
Nishant Kumar Yadav brings a wealth of administrative experience to his new role. An officer of the Haryana cadre, Yadav has held various key positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Karnal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sonepat. He also served as Secretary to the Haryana Public Service Commission, showcasing his diverse experience in governance and public administration. Yadav assumed his current role as Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner in February 2022, succeeding Yash Garg.
Yadav’s appointment to Chandigarh is part of an inter-cadre deputation from the Haryana cadre to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. His tenure is set for three years or until further notice, as specified in an official communication from the Department of Personnel and Training.
Selection Process and Nomination
The selection of Yadav as Chandigarh’s Deputy Commissioner follows the Haryana government’s recommendation of three IAS officers for the role. Besides Yadav, the shortlisted candidates included Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, and Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Sonepat. Following a review, Yadav emerged as the top choice for the Union Territory’s DC position.
Vinay Pratap Singh’s Central Deputation
Vinay Pratap Singh, a 2011-batch IAS officer, has served as Chandigarh’s Deputy Commissioner since 2021. Known for his focus on urban administration and development, Singh’s tenure in Chandigarh is set to conclude in November. While his new assignment on central deputation has been confirmed, official orders for his posting are yet to be issued.
