Hoshiarpur Police recover 8kg Heroin smuggled in Fortuner, Scorpio; Rs.20-lakh drug money seized, 6 held

In a major breakthrough against drugs, the District Police busted an international drug cartel linked with Pakistan with the arrest of three smugglers by seizing 8 kg heroin from the vehicle they were travelling on Mahilpur-Phagwara road.

In another action against the interstate smugglers of poppy husk, three persons were arrested with Rs. 20 lakh cash drug money and five kg poppy husk from a scorpio vehicle in Dasuya area

Giving details in this regard, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal stated that the heroine was smuggled from Pakistan, which was to be sold in Punjab and other states by the smugglers.

On the directives of DGP Dinkar Gupta, the SSP said, a team of CIA staff under the supervision of SP (D) Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, ASP Garhshankar Tushar Gupta, DSP Prem Singh, CIA Incharge Shiv Kumar laid a naka at village Thuana on Mahilpur-Phagwara Road, where they checked a SUV fortuner having no HR26-CD-0072 and recovered a largest haul of heroin.

He said that the smugglers had created a hidden cavity between the bumper and radiator of the vehicle, which was very difficult to be found but the police searched the same, where they got eight packets containing eight kg heroin.

The SSP said that accused had been identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi resident of village Chananwal in Mehal Kalan Police Station of Barnala, Manpreet Singh alias Kala and Jagdeep Singh alias Soni both residents of village Balvera in police station Sadar, Patiala.

The accused Sukhi had already been booked in several cases including two of UAPA Act in Delhi and Ropar. A big consignment of RDX was recovered from Sukhi in Delhi, who is a close associate of militant Daya Singh Lahoria, said the SSP adding that six kg heroin and four pistols were recovered from him in Sidhwan Bet area in 2007.

Navjot Singh Mahal said that Sukhi came out of jail on bail in 2019 and travelled to Pakistan for religious tours, where he developed contacts with the drug smugglers. He said that by using his Pakistani contacts he got the heroin to supply the drugs in different parts of the country.

During preliminary investigation it was come to fore that Sukhi was associated with a drug smuggler Amrik Singh resident of Sirhind Road, Patiala and both were running the drug trade in which latter helped the former by investing money.

Lauding the district police teams for such a big seizure, Navjot Singh Mahal said that the District Police recovered the drugs very wisely by tracing the hidden place created in the car. He said that Police were investigating the case thoroughly by registering a case in Mahilpur police station under section 21-C, 61-85 of NDPS Act. The police remand is being sought to further tracing the chain of this drug trade.

THREE HELD WITH Rs 20 LAKH CASH DRUG MONEY, FIVE KG POPPY HUSK

SSP Navjot Singh Mahal, while addressing press conference in local police lines, informed that in another case, on a tip off, the CIA Staff led by its incharge Shiv Kumar laid a special trap at T-point near Garna Sahib Intercepted a Scorpio car no PB-13-BE-3737 and seized Rs. 20 lakh cash drug money from its spare tire. The police also recovered 5 kg poppy husk, which was placed under the mats of car.

Navjot Singh Mahal said that the accused have been identified as Surinder Singh alias Shinda, Fumman Singh alias Kali and Shinderpal Singh alias Shinda, all resident of village Burj Hassan in police station Bilga. He said that the trio were proceeding towards Srinagar to procure poppy husk, which would be further sold in Punjab.

A case under section 15-61-85 of NDPS act has been registered in police station Dasuya in this regard.
