Haryana Police seizes illicit liquor worth Rs.3-cr during lockdown

In a major crackdown, Haryana Police has seized 5200 boxes of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Sonipat district when the consignment was being smuggled in trucks during the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown.

Police has also arrested three persons in this connection. The estimated value of seized liquor is around Rs 3 crore.

Giving this information here today, a spokesperson of Haryana Police said that arrested accused have been identified as Manjit Singh, a resident of Ajrabar, district Patiala, Balwinder Singh of Mubarkpur, district Mohali and Devender Singh, Derabassi, Punjab. The crackdown was made by a team of Special Task Force following a secret input.

He said that a team of STF in the search of criminals and anti-social elements was present near GT Road Murthal. Soon after getting secret input from informer about the illegal transpiration of liquor in trucks parked at Hans Dhaba in Murthal, the police team immediately raided the location and seized a total of 5200 boxes of IMFL from different trucks.

Initial investigations revealed that the seized liquor was being illegally transported from Derabassi (Punjab) for supply in different parts of Delhi.

A case under relevant sections of the Excise Act had been registered against the accused at Murthal Police Station and further investigation is under progress.
