Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today appealed to the people of this constituency to give a chance to the family of S Parkash Singh Badal to change the face of this assembly segment.
Talking to newsmen here after visiting various villages in the constituency, Mrs Harsimrat Badal said “our family is committed to bring back the era of development as witnessed during the tenure of S Parkash Singh Badal”.
Asserting that she had been given the opportunity to lead the party campaign in the forthcoming by-election, Mrs Harsimrat Badal said “I have come to you as the person who was given the responsibility to serve you betrayed the party. This has given me an opportunity to not only be among you but also get to know your problems first hand.
I am shocked that even though this constituency was represented by a minister – Raja Warring in the last government – still the sewerage system is in chaos. People are complaining that the sewerage and drinking water supply get mixed at various places leading to the spread of diseases”.
Asserting that this constituency was linked with the legacy of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, the Bathinda MP said “Badal Sahab was elected five times from this constituency. This constituency played a major role in paving the way for him to become chief minister of the State. He in turn developed this constituency to its fullest.
However the last seven years have witnessed the constituency falling into decay under Congress and Aam Aadmi Party tenure”.
Asserting that the time had come to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress – AAP duo, Mrs Badal said “both these parties defamed the SAD to snatch power. However both these parties have not only bankrupted Punjab but led the State into an era of lawlessness with gangsters calling the shots even as the menace of drugs has reached menacing proportions”.
The Bathinda MP said under AAP rule all development work had come to a standstill even as all social welfare schemes had been closed. “This government has recently borrowed Rs 1150 crore to give salaries to its employees. It has failed Punjabis completely”.
Talking about chief minister Bhagwant Mann, Mrs Badal said “Mr Mann has become a lame duck chief minister. All powers have been taken away from him.
The head of a municipality – Arvind Kejriwal has taken over the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Punjab and shunted out all officers appointed by the chief minister. Governance is suffering due to this takeover and Punjabis are at the receiving end”.
When questioned about the highhandedness of AAP leaders in the ongoing panchayat elections, Mrs Badal said “AAP is afraid of facing the people. That is why it has forced officials to reject the candidature of opposition candidates in the panchayat polls. Such dictatorial tactics never work and Punjabis will teach the party a befitting lesson”, Mrs Badal added. EOM
