The stage is set for the Gakhal Group Surjit Hockey League (Season-I) starting here today at local Astroturf ground of Lyallpur Khalsa College.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, IAS, who is also the President of the Surjit Hockey Society and Academy that this two days Six-a-Side league will be organized in Junior, Sub Junior and kids sections to promote hockey at the junior level.
As many as 26 matches will be played in all the three age groups. The renowned sports promoter & NRI Amolak Singh Gakhal, Chairman, Gakhal Group (USA) will be the main sponsor, Thori added.
According to Iqbal Singh Sandhu, organising secretary of the Surjit hokey League that the 18 teams will be participating. Rakshak-XI, JPGA Farmers, Tyka Sports, Gakhal Brothers (USA) in Pool-A, Royal Infra, Jonex Sports, Alfa Hockey, California Eagles (USA) are in Pool-B of Junior Group.
In Junior Group- Pukhraj Health Care, Tracer Shoes, Black Panther in Pool-A whereas Shray Sports, Continent Hotels & Flash Hockey teams placed in Pool-B and in Kids group teams Milwaukee Wolves, Tut Brothers (USA), Hans Raj & Sons and AGI Infra are participating.
Sandhu further informed that all the teams are mixed with boys & girls. Arrangements have been made to provide to full playing kit, 2 meals, and diet to each player/official and even meals will also be provided to parents/guests also who will come to witness the matches. The matches will be played from 7:30 am onwards till evening, The inaugural match of the day will be played between Rakshak-XI & JPGA Farmers at 7;30 am.sandhu added.
