FBI Arrests Former Hochul aide Linda Sun, Hubby Chris Hu: What We Know So Far

North Shore (Long Island), September 3, 2024

Early Tuesday morning, FBI agents arrested Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and her husband, Chris Hu, at their home in a quiet cul-de-sac on Long Island’s North Shore.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are expected to request the unsealing of an indictment against Sun, 40, and Hu, 41, later today, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Although the specific charges against the couple have not yet been disclosed due to the indictment being sealed, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York confirmed the arrests and mentioned that Sun and Hu are scheduled to appear before a federal judge in Brooklyn later in the day.

Attempts to reach Sun and Hu for comment were unsuccessful, and it remains unclear whether they have secured legal representation.

The couple’s arrest comes six weeks after FBI agents conducted an early-morning raid at their $3.5 million five-bedroom home in Manhasset. At the time, the reasons for the search and the nature of the investigation were not made public. Following the raid, both Sun and Hu did not respond to any voicemail or text messages.

Linda Sun has a long career in state government, spanning nearly 14 years. According to her LinkedIn profile, she started her career in the legislative branch, working as chief of staff for Assemblywoman Grace Meng, who now serves as a congresswoman.

Sun later held various positions under the administrations of both Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Governor Kathy Hochul, focusing on business development, Asian American affairs, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Sun left Governor Hochul’s executive team after about 15 months and joined the New York Department of Labor in November 2022. She stayed there for five months before becoming the campaign manager for Austin Cheng, a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for a congressional seat on Long Island.

At the time of the FBI raid in July, Avi Small, the press secretary for Governor Hochul, declined to comment on the matter.

Chris Hu, Sun’s husband, owns Leivine Wine & Spirits, a liquor store in Flushing, Queens. Over the past decade, Hu has also incorporated several businesses, including Medical Supplies USA LLC, which he established in 2020 during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also created Golden Capital Group LLC in 2016 and LCA Holdings LLC in 2023, though the specific nature of these businesses has not been immediately determined.
