The one-day Punjab assembly session on 3rd of September 2021, without question Hour and legislative agenda, is seemingly a legislative fraud in order to circumvent the discussion on important issues confronting Punjab.
Technically, one day session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly under Section 173 (1) of the constitution, meets the statutory requirement of the constitution to hold session of the Assembly within six months of the last sitting of the house but the deceptive exercise does not correspond with the expectations of the people of Punjab, rather it sounds like a literal sham .
The Government may dedicate one sitting of the House for the remembrance of the 400th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji, but why scuttle the legitimate deliberation on other important issues expected to be discussed in the House. The Punjab cabinet headed by Capt. Amarinder Singh has committed profanity against the temple of democracy i.e. The House of Legislature and also against the people of the State.
The repeal of the anti-farmer Agri laws and the outright rejection of the ill-conceived fraudulent PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) must be discussed in this session of the Punjab Assembly, otherwise it would be construed that Capt. Amarinder Singh is playing dirty tricks on these issues.
If Capt. Amarinder Singh really enjoys the absolute majority of the MLAs of the Congress as being perpetrated through ‘Dinner Diplomacy’ than why he is shying away to discuss the issues on the floor of the House? As he (The CM) must be aware that the Punjab Legislative Assembly is the only legitimate forum under the constitution to prove majority for the survival of the Government and not the ‘Dinner party’ outside the House.
Therefore, the one-day session of the Punjab Assembly, must be extended in deference to the expectations of the people and also as demanded by the collective opposition, including the PCC President Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu.
