Quashing of Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is unfortunate in the ongoing Janakpuri and Vikaspuri case against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, an accused of the 1984 Sikh Genocide in Delhi. The victims who have been demanding justice for the last 38 years have been traumatized by this. This has been expressed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in a statement issued today.
Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Sikh Genocide of 1984 is marked as the peak of anti-human brutality in human history, the victims of which have been struggling for justice for nearly four decades, but it is sad that justice is not being given to them.
He said that Congress leader Sajjan Kumar is clearly guilty of the Delhi Sikh Genocide, and is already serving a sentence in one case. Although the framing of charges by the court under several other Sections of the IPC is welcome in the Janakpuri and Vikaspuri case, it is not right to quash Section 302, because this case is related to the killing of Sikhs.
He said that Sajjan Kumar should be punished severely in every case so that the victims of the Sikh Genocide can get justice. He said that it is the responsibility of the special investigation team of the government to make efforts to get this accused severely punished and to take action for the addition of Section 302 again, which was quashed by the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi in the case of Janakpuri and Vikaspuri cases.
