The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested two gangsters
New Delhi, Sep 22, 2023- The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested two gangsters of Salman Tyagi-Naresh Sethi-Lawrence Bishnoi gang who were wanted in connection with two extortion cases registered in the national capital, an official said on Friday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepanshu a.k.a Monu, and Moinuddin a.k.a Salman. Their arrest has also exposed the international nexus of these gangs engaged in recruiting youngsters.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav said that in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, two consecutive incidents of gunfire happened in Rajouri Garden police station area.
In the first incident, the accused, Deepanshu and Moinuddin, arrived at Zaika Restaurant in Subash Nagar on a scooter and fired two gunshots at the restaurant’s flex board.
“Within a mere five minutes, the same individuals reached Gulati Handloom and fired three gunshots in front of the establishment. Subsequently, they fled the scene and went into hiding,” said the Special CP.
“It has now been revealed that these gunshots were intended to enforce an extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh each from the owners of Zaika Restaurant and Gulati Handloom,” said the Special CP.
During the investigation, more than 200 CCTV cameras were meticulously reviewed and analysed and intelligence gathered by the investigative team led to the identification of the gangsters.
Once their identities were confirmed, various police teams conducted raids on their hideouts.
“Additional information suggested that the accused involved in the gunfire incidents in the Subash Nagar area would convene near Mayapuri Metro Station to meet someone, providing an opportunity to apprehend them,” said the Special CP.
“A trap was set near Mayapuri Metro Station, resulting in the arrest of one of the accused, Moinuddin. Subsequently, the other accused, Deepanshu, also known as Monu, who was the pillion rider and had fired upon both shops, was arrested near Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar, Delhi, based on the information provided by Moinuddin,” said the Special CP.
Two pistols, five live cartridges, and the scooter used in the commission of the crime were recovered from them.
During questioning, Deepanshu revealed that he is closely associated with the notorious gangster Salman Tyagi, who is currently incarcerated in Mandoli Jail.
“Deepanshu frequently visited Salman Tyagi in jail, and during a recent visit, Salman Tyagi instructed him to make an extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh from each businessman. To carry out this task, Salman Tyagi provided them with two pistols,” said Yadav.
At Salman Tyagi’s behest, both accused individuals fired gunshots in front of the targeted shops to instil fear and compel the extortion payments.
The Special CP further said that Salman Tyagi is a hardened criminal operating primarily in west Delhi and is currently in judicial custody at Mandoli Jail, facing numerous cases of murder and extortion spanning two decades.
“His criminal journey began with minor offences, gradually escalating to more serious crimes, including murder, extortion, and issuing death threats. He is implicated in more than 25 heinous cases, including the murder of a prominent businessman named Ajay Choudhary of Keshopur Mandi,” said the official.
However, despite his incarceration, Salman Tyagi continues to control his gang from within the prison, extorting money from Delhi-based businessmen.
“Those who refuse to comply with the extortion demands are subjected to violence to instil fear. Tyagi often entices and recruits young and impressionable individuals, making it difficult to trace them. Recently, he appears to have aligned with the Naresh Sethi-Kala Jathedi-Lawrence Binshnoi gang, having previously been associated with Neeraj Bawania,” said the official.
These shifts reflect the changing dynamics among criminal gangs.
The Special CP further said that law enforcement agencies have consistently exposed the exploitation of vulnerable youth by these criminal organisations.
“Young recruits often join these gangs with hopes of gaining notoriety among their peers, unaware of the grim future that awaits them. Once trapped, there is no escape, and their lives are spent either behind bars or in courtrooms,” said the official.
“Their families are left with no choice but to disown them, as they do not want to be implicated in illegal activities. Ultimately, the money extorted never benefits the recruits, who lead precarious lives while the gang leaders amass wealth and enjoy luxurious lifestyles abroad,” said the Special CP. (Agency)
