Bathinda, November 29, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
The Central University of Punjab commemorated the 554th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by hosting a One Day Seminar titled ‘Guru Nanak Dev’s Bani and World Vision’. The programme was organized under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari was enthusiastically attended by students, faculty, staff members and distinguished personalities of village Ghudda, Bathinda.

In this seminar, the Chief Guest, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, and Keynote Speaker Dr. Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Studies at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, shared insights into the universal relevance of Baba Nanak’s teachings in all times.

Presenting the keynote address at the seminar, Dr. Manjinder Singh challenged the conventional criteria used to interpret the personality of Guru Nanak and his Bani. He advocated for comprehending Gurbani based on insights derived from Gurbani itself, transcending western conceptual frameworks.

Furthermore, Dr. Singh emphasized that Guru Nanak and his Bani should not be confined within the boundaries of history, geography, or temporal constraints. According to him, Guru Nanak’s vision transcends these limitations and embodies the essence of Adi Sachh. Dr. Singh asserted that Baba Nanak is a Jagat Guru and his vision extends to encompass universal cosmic consciousness.

Dr. Singh discussed three models: variety without unity, unity without variety, and unity with variety. He emphasized that Guru Nanak Bani incorporates an element of unity in diversity. This inherent aspect guides us to appreciate and respect diverse viewpoints while encouraging harmonious coexistence with nature.

The Chief Guest Prof. Karamjeet Singh emphasized that the solution of the contemporary crisis can be found in Gurbani. In the current situation of global turbulent environment, wherein humanity is suffering on a large scale, the relevance of Gurbani has increased. He said that epistemological consciousness in Guru Nanak Bani can only liberate man from crises.

Therefore, at present, there is a need to reconsider the scriptures and adopt them in life. He underlined that the world would become more peaceful when we start living our life following the path of Gurbani i.e. truth, contentment, universal love, equality, fraternity and justice. Both the speakers of the seminar emphasized that there is an important need to put the knowledge of Guru Nanak Bani into practice.

On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Tiwari and distinguished guests released Book “SUDIKSHA – A Tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji” publication by Central University of Punjab. The Chief Editors of this Book are Prof. Harpal Singh Pannu and Prof. Kuldip Singh. This Book includes 18 articles by experts from CU Punjab and other universities.

Therefore, we need to take guidance from Gurbani for social reforms and universities have to play an important role in this aspect. Currently, Punjab is facing problems including drugs, youth migration etc., to combat which it is necessary to imbibe Gurbani and make it a part of our daily life.
