Independent councilors have started joining the Congress after people across the state gave an overwhelming mandate in favor of the grand-old-party in the civic bodies’ elections.
Congress, which won only 20 out of 50 seats in Moga and fell short of 6 councilors to claim majority, got a breather today as 9 independent councilors joined the party in the presence of PCC chief Sunil Jakhar, Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Aashu, Moga MLA Dr Harjot Kamal and Pathankot District Congress Chief Sanjiv Bains..
The independent councilors of Moga Municipal Corporation who have joined the Congress include Jaspreet Singh Vicky, Gurpreet Singh Sachdeva, Praveen Makkar, Buta Singh, Sukhwinder Kaur, Reema Sood, Tirath Ram, Payal, and Surinder Singh.
Two independent councilors from Sujanpur Municipal Council and one from Pathankot Municipal Corporation also announced to join Congress. They include Surinder Minhas and Tarsem Makkar from Sujanpur and Baljit Singh Tinku of Pathankot.
While welcoming them, Jakhar said that the people of Punjab had voted for the pro-people policies of the Congress party and its govt in the state and independent councilors have joined the party as they feel impressed by the tremendous development and peace in the state.
