Congress Govt trying to delink Punjab’s Govt Universities from UGC: Malwinder Singh Kang

Chandigarh, 14 December 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Aam Aadmi Party has called the protests of teachers of the government universities of Punjab unfortunate for Punjab. Addressing the media at the party headquarters on Tuesday, senior AAP leader Malwinder Singh Kang said that the Congress government of Punjab is hatching a conspiracy to deny higher education to the students of poor and ordinary families.

Accusing the Congress government, Kang said, “The Punjab government, despite the notification issued by the UGC in 2017, is still not paying the salaries to the government university teachers according to the Seventh Pay Commission. Congress government is trying to ‘delink’ the government universities from UGC. Young students of Punjab are bearing the brunt of it all.

Congress government is leading Punjab’s higher education towards ‘darkness’.” If the relationship of government universities is problematic with the UGC, then all funds from the central government to the government aided education institutions will stop.

Kang accused the Congress government of promoting private educational institutions and said that the Congress government has been deteriorating the condition of government universities by withholding funds so that private universities could dominate Punjab’s education field.

Education in private universities and educational institutions is so expensive that the common and poor students are simply unable to afford. The purpose of such anti-public educational policies of the Congress government is to deprive poor students from getting higher education.

He said that like the previous Akali government, Congress government has been destroying the higher education system of Punjab under a conspiracy. Due to the anti-people policies of the previous governments, youth of Punjab have been forced to migrate abroad, in large numbers, for education and employment. Congress and Akali governments are clearly responsible for the exodus of the youth of Punjab.

Promising the people of Punjab, he said that when the Aam Aadmi Party government is formed in 2022, the teachers of government universities will be given the benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission as per the rules of the UGC. The AAP government will improve the condition of higher education and provide all the resources to the youth of Punjab to educate and succeed.
