Col Assault Case: Punjab Govt Reshuffles SIT, ADGP AS Rai to be New Chief

Chandigarh, March 28, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

In a significant development, the Punjab government has restructured the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the assault case of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and his son Angad Singh.

New SIT Leadership and Reassignments

As per the latest official orders, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AS Rai has been appointed as the new head of the SIT, replacing ADGP SPS Parmar. Parmar, who previously led the investigation, has been reassigned as the Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau.

Despite this change in leadership, two key SIT members—Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Malik and Superintendent of Police (SP) Manpreet Singh—will remain part of the team.

Background of the Assault Case

The case revolves around the alleged assault of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and his son by Punjab Police personnel. So far, twelve police officers have been booked in connection with the violent incident.

The repeated leadership changes in the SIT have sparked widespread speculation and debate over the Punjab government’s approach to handling sensitive cases, particularly those involving police misconduct.
