Refuting the allegations of illegal mining in Banur Weir behind the Chhatbir in the SAS Nagar district as baseless and far away from truth, the District Administration has categorically said that no such illegal activities were going on in the district.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that after the allegations came to the fore about the illegal mining, the District Mines and Geology Officers were immediately rushed to the site to check the veracity of the allegations. It was found that the mining on the site is going on as per the KML file prepared by the Mines and Geology and Water Resources Department for delisting of the Banur Weir to prevent the flooding in the rainy season.
She said that the desilting of the catchment area of the Banur Weir is a must to restore the original capacity of the Weir. She said that to allege that the desilting is illegal mining is totally wrong, misleading and irresponsible.
She said that District Administration will not allow any type of illegal mining activities in the district at any cost and the Sub Divisional Magistrates of all the Sub Divisions have been asked to keep a close check on desilting and mining related activities in their areas.
The Deputy Commissioner has constituted a high level committee to look into de-silting related issues headed by ADC (General) and SP Rural. The committee shall visit the desilting sites regularly to monitor the operations and ensure compliance of all rules and regulations to prevent illegal mining and report violations/irregularities if any.
As per the details given by the Executive Engineer, Mines & Geology and Water Resources, Akash Aggarwal, there is 5771132 Cubic Feet (CFT) quantity of material has to be extracted which will generate the total revenue of Rs. 30298443/-. The site is being operated within the timings issued by the Department from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, added Executive Engineer.
