Boycott of duties by Rural Pharmacy Officials amid Corona crisis a blot on Amarinder govt.: AAP

Jalandhar, June 20, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has expressed deep shock and dismay over boycotting of duties by about 1200 rural pharmacy officers posted in as many as 1186 rural dispensaries in the state, amid a sharp surge in the Covid-19 cases, adding that pharmacy officers were an important link between the doctors and health workers fighting a grim battle against the killer virus from ground zero.

Party spokesperson and MLA from Garhshankar Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, expressing grave concern over the boycotting of duties by pharmacy officials, allegedly out of sheer frustration and helplessness, said that during this challenging time it was indeed a blot on the face of the ruling Captain Amarinder Singh government.

Quoting pharmacy officers, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri said the officials concerned had been working in as many as 1186 rural dispensaries in the state under the Department of Panchayat for 14 years now at a meagre salary of Rs.10,000 per month.

He lamented that the Captain government had not fulfilled its election promises of regularising their services or increasing their monthly salaries, prompting them to take the decision to boycotting duties.

Rouri said that the Congress government, which return to power on the narrative of offering jobs to every household, had reneged on all the promises it peddled among the people of the state.

Rouri added the government should have taken an urgent call on the issue of regularising the services of rural pharmacy officers, Anganwadi and Asha workers, who were fighting the big battle against Covid-19, from the front row, besides announcing an insurance cover of Rs 1 crore in line with the Kejriwal government in Delhi.

The AAP leader said that amid the sharp surge in the corona cases taking a heavy toll across the country, including Punjab, the government should invest more on ramping up the government health services by giving the brave corona warriors fighting from ground zero, including doctors, health workers and others, their due.

Rouri said that if the government in the saddle failed to accede to all the legitimate demands of the rural pharmacy officers, the Aam Aadmi Party would be open to support the struggling pharmacy officials.
