The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for trying to postpone the Chandigarh Mayor elections, which the INDIA alliance is winning clearly, and termed their attempts undemocratic steps taken in the fear of inevitable defeat.
Chandigarh Mayoral election was scheduled for January 18th but it is being adjourned. The AAP leaders said that the BJP is unnerved by the strength of the INDIA alliance and they are not ready to face their first of many defeats at the hands of the INDIA alliance.
AAP Chandigarh incharge Jarnail Singh said that anyone, who thinks that it is hard to defeat the BJP, can see their condition in Chandigarh today.
They are so scared of loss that they are running away from the election. He added that the BJP wants to cancel this election after the alliance of the AAP and Congress. In his statement he also said that now the whole country is standing strong against the dictatorship of the BJP and soon we will get rid of it.
Reacting to the tactics of the BJP in Chandigarh, Rajya Sabha member and senior AAP leader Dr Sandeep Pathak, on his X, said, “Staring at its inevitable defeat the BJP has started its dirty tricks machinery in Chandigarh.
If this is the kind of election system we have in the country then it’s highly discouraging.” He added that the BJP is trying hard to postpone the mayor election in Chandigarh by misusing the government apparatus. But they will not let them succeed.
Member Parliament Raghav Chadha also criticised the BJP for this undemocratic meddling in an election and said that the BJP is gripped by ‘democracy-phobia’ – a fear of democracy and free & fair elections. He said that the BJP is scared of INDIA’s triumph.
The AAP leader said that with 20 out of the total 36 votes in its favor, the INDIA alliance is poised to win the Chandigarh Mayoral Elections. This has forced BJP’s dirty tricks department to work overtime. So first, the Secretary of Elections falls sick, and now, the Presiding Officer has also fallen sick.
BJP is playing tricks to adjourn the election which they are set to lose badly. Chadha added that this deliberate attempt to postpone elections is an undeniable evidence that the BJP is, without a doubt, afraid of the INDIA alliance.
He quipped that the BJP is like a disgruntled child who, upon being called out in gully cricket, takes away the bat and declares an end to the game. “Is our democracy so weak that elections will only happen when the BJP is winning, and elections will be adjourned if the BJP is losing,” asks Chadha.
He further said that this is the contest between the INDIA alliance and the BJP and the INDIA alliance is winning it clearly. But by cancelling the election because of the fear of defeat, does the BJP want to turn this country into North Korea?
He said that the BJP is a great threat to the democracy of our country but if the INDIA alliance continues to fight unitedly like this, then the day is not far when the BJP will be wiped off from the power.
He requested the people that parties will come and go, but to save the democracy of this country, it is necessary to get rid of the BJP in the upcoming elections. If the BJP continues then it will turn India into North Korea.
He further said that the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, together, will take a decision to approach the High Court to ensure that the Mayor’s election is held fairly. Also, we will request the election administration that if one presiding officer falls ill then you should appoint another presiding officer. They can appoint whoever they want but elections were scheduled today, so it should be held today.
Chadha said that this is just a Mayor’s election and the BJP is so scared of the INDIA alliance and they already are having sleepless nights. Just imagine what will happen when they face the INDIA in general elections of 2024.
The Bharatiya Janata Party will also use every possible trick in the 2024 elections to influence the elections. That is why the 135 crore people of this country will have to come together, the INDIA alliance will have to become stronger and have to defeat the BJP.
