In a press release issued here Sukhpal Singh Khaira MLA and former Leader of Opposition attacked senior Badal of hypocracy and double standards over his belated stand on minorities.
Khaira said Mr. Badal was now raising the bogey of minorities only to regain his lost image amongst the Sikh masses, due to anti Sikh acts of his government during ten years of misrule and in the same breath to pressurise BJP not to break alliance with SAD.
Khaira said how has Mr. Badal and SAD suddenly woken up on the safety of minorities when his party had recently voted to abrogate Article 370 in J&K? He said the SAD not only voted to scarp Article 370 but also supported bifurcation of J&K into two states, a step against the basic fundamentals and ideology of SAD that stood for greater autonomy to states and a federal India.
Khaira reminded Mr. Badal why he has maintained silence over repeated claims of RSS and BJP leaders to make India a “Hindu Rashtra”? Khaira chided Mr. Badal for his stoic silence over the uncalled for detentions of J&K leaders including Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and others under the draconian PSA?
Khaira reminded Mr. Badal that the Sikhs have not forgotten his anti Sikh acts of commission and omission in the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib ji and subsequent killing of two Sikhs in the Behbal Kalan police firing. Khaira lambasted Mr. Badal for protecting guilty police officers for the broadaylight murder of Sikh youth at Behbal Kalan during his tenure as CM.
Khaira urged Mr. Badal to clarify why he appointed Sumedh Singh Saini as DGP of a so called “Panthic” government when he had been accused of killing Sikh youth in fake encounters? Why did Mr. Badal give an Akali ticket to a person like Izhar Alam Ex DGP known for the infamous “Alam Sena” to create cats out of Sikh youth?
Khaira accused the senior Badal of trashing the sacrilege case against Sacha Sauda Dera Chief Ram Rahim in the Bathinda Sessions Court to the run up of 2012 assembly elections? Khaira dared Mr. Badal to clarify why he pressurised the then Jathedar Akal Takhat to grant pardon to the Dera Chief in 2015?
Khaira said Mr. Badal and his cronies were now shedding crocodile tears by mischievously raising the issue of minorities merely to save his declining graph amongst the Sikhs, which is clearly evident from the 2017 Punjab polls and now again the Delhi results where Sikhs have outrightly rejected the SAD leadership.
Khaira said since BJP has realised that the Badal family is now nothing but a futile burden as alliance partners for their anti Sikh acts, he is trying to pressurise BJP to keep his alliance intact by raising the issue of importance of minorities in India.
