Avoid sharing fake and sensitive news on social media platforms: SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena

While seeking the cooperation of web/social media channels being operated in SBS Nagar district by various individuals, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bhagirath Singh Meena asked them not to propagate any misleading information or fake news on their social media platforms.

Taking a meeting of social media channels today at the District Police Office, Nawanshahr, SSP Meena said that we should strictly adhere to the guidelines mentioned in sections 69-A-1 and 79-3-B of IT Act 2000, before sharing any information. He said that their social media channels should carry right and fact based information rather than incomplete, unconfirmed catchy headlines.

He asked them to counter any fake news pertaining to any community, State and Nation as soon as they approached or apprised by the authority concerned.

Making appeal to avoid any sensitive information related to identity of clash between two communities, religion or any other. He said that before sharing any information or interview, it should be ensured that the sense of the programme or event could not harm the integrity, peace and harmony of the state and Nation as well as social bonding between two communities or Nations.

Terming the importance of credentials of source from whom, the social media channels deriving information, SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena laid emphasis to carry only authenticated and confirmed information.

DSPs, Madhvi Sharma and Lakhvir Singh were also present in the meeting.
