Arrest of Advocate Brar an eyewash, Amarinder Govt. protecting Badals: Harpal Cheema

Chandigarh, June 17, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has questioned the ongoing snail-paced probe into the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and the Behbal Kalan-Kotkapura shooting incidents, alleging Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who held Home Minister portfolio, had been indulging in influencing the investigating agencies to offer protective cover to the high profile accused, including the Badals.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Wednesday, senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, chief spokesperson Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Jai Krishan Singh Rouri (All MLAs), reacting to the arrest of advocate Suhel Singh Brar by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), said that as long as the actual culprits in the desecration and firing incidents were not nabbed and punished, the Nanak Leva ‘Sangat’ across the world would not get the ends of justice.

Harpal Singh Cheema on the occasion said: “We have no doubt about the professional approach and ability of Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, but when the entire juggernaut was bent on defending the accused by destroying the material evidence at the behest of the Chief Minister, what could be expected of an upright officer like Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh? ”

Prof. Baljinder Kaur alleged that in the heinous crimes committed on a large scale by high profile culprits, the arrest of a small fry like Suhail Singh Brar was a mere eyewash to protect the actual culprits behind the horrific crimes.

She said whenever the needle of suspicion had moved towards the high and powerful people, like the Badals or Sumedh Singh Saini, those at the helms of affairs come to the rescue of the high profile culprits, adding that Bittu’s murder in Nabha Jail and the mysterious death Surjit Singh, a key witness in the case were abortive attempts by the government to destroy clinching evidences.

Kotkapura MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan said the 183-page report of Justice Ranjit Singh had made it categorically clear that the protesting ‘sangat’ at Behbal Kalan was calm and unarmed, saying why did it take so long to take action against the likes of Suhel Singh Brar?

Sandhwan said that it was clear that the government in the saddle was dragging its feet over the investigation of these sensitive cases unnecessarily. He said were the government sensitive about the incidents the actual culprits would have been behind the bars by now.

Jai Krishan Singh Rouri said that the age-old bonhomie between Capt. Amarinder Singh and the Badal clan was now an open secret, saying that both were offering protective cover to each other as and when they come to power, alleging it was futile to expect any justice from the Capt. Amarinder Singh government, he said.

He added that if the Aam Aadmi Party was voted to power in the 2022 Assembly polls in the state, its first and foremost priority would be to buy justice for the Sangat by awarding punishment to the culprits.
