Archaeological Dept team to inspect site where old structures were found during Kar Sewa: Jagir Kaur

Amritsar, July 17, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur inspected the site of the upcoming Jora Ghar (shoe-house) and Gathri Ghar (cloak-house) where old building structures were found recently near Secretariat, Sri Akal Takht Sahib at Sri Darbar Sahib on Saturday.

While inspecting the site, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that a team from the Archaeological Department would visit the site for investigation on Monday and the concerned building structures will not be touched until the truth about its historic facts is established.

SGPC president clarified that the SGPC is committed to the preservation of the heritage and historical sites and buildings while some people were deliberately trying to tarnish its image.

She said I appeal to the Sangat (devotees) to read the facts to test any views about such matters related to history.

“A meeting has also been held with the officials of the district administration regarding the building structures which came to light and the officials have assured their cooperation”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

As per the SGPC president, the representatives of the Archaeological Department would visit Sri Darbar Sahib on Monday after which a decision on the building structures would be taken.

“If it is related to the Gurus or Sikh history, then it will be preserved for the Sangat by the management”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Replying to a query, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “So far, no concrete historical facts have come to light about the found building structures but primarily it is being speculated that these would have been buried underneath during the demolition of area and construction of Galiara (corridor) around Sri Darbar Sahib by the government then.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “In fact, the SGPC has brought these structures to the light, so there is no question of any historical or Sikh heritage being destroyed by the Sikh body.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that everyone should wait till the report is received from the archaeology experts and further information will be shared with the Sangat (devotees).

On this occasion, SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, additional secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, manager Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, OSD to SGPC president Dr Sukhbir Singh and others were present.
